The self-drive from Changchun to the Wanda Resort in Changbai Mountain takes approximately 4.5 hours. Heading south out of Changchun, take the Fuchang Expressway directly. Once the Fuchang Expressway is fully completed, it will lead straight to the Wanda Resort; however, as construction is still ongoing, you currently have to exit at the Huayuankou Exit and then drive about another 50 kilometers on local roads.
The Fuchang Expressway is relatively new, but the speed limit varies: 120 km/h for the first section, 100 km/h for the middle section, and only 80 km/h for the final section. There is virtually no traffic throughout the entire route, and the road conditions are excellent. It is very easy to accidentally speed, and the scenery along the way is so beautiful that it can easily make you drowsy… The time spent on the expressway is roughly 3 hours.
There are several service areas along the way. The first one after leaving Changchun is at Chaoyangshan, which takes about an hour to reach. Since there is hardly any traffic on the expressway, the service areas only offer refueling and restrooms. There are no accommodations or supermarkets—just basic facilities for buying water and instant noodles.
Things get quite complicated once you get off the expressway. For the 50-kilometer mountain road, navigation originally suggested taking Provincial Highway S302, but that road is also under construction. After passing Fusong Town on S302, you need to take County Road 0900, County Road 094, and Township Road 006 before rejoining S302. Heading south all the way, you will eventually see signs for the Wanda Resort. In short, whenever you encounter a construction zone, watch the signs carefully and detour promptly…
Road conditions on this stretch are rather poor, and it takes about an hour and a half to complete. It is mostly a two-lane bidirectional road, and you will encounter various dump trucks, buses, and other large vehicles. Please exercise caution when overtaking in the opposite lane.
The Wanda Resort is located quite close to Changbaishan Airport, only 17 kilometers away, and is also near the West Slope of Changbai Mountain, less than 30 kilometers away. Driving is very convenient, the roads are well-paved, and you can simply follow the road signs.
Parking in the resort costs 5 RMB per 24 hours. If you are staying at a hotel, you can ask the front desk for a parking voucher to park for free.
