I stayed at the Crowne Plaza Aqua City during this trip to Nanjing. The location is excellent, right in Xinjiekou, above Tower A of Golden Eagle. The hotel front desk is on the 7th floor, while the restaurant, gym, and swimming pool are all on the 9th floor. Right out of the elevator on the 7th floor is a nightclub… It was quite lively when I passed by at night…
The hotel is a bit dated, prices have always been relatively low, and there aren’t many guests. They’ve always been very generous with members, basically always offering suite upgrades, but honestly, the stay wasn’t that enjoyable. The problem with older hotels is the poor quality of the mattresses; they’re not comfortable enough to sleep on. Also, the showerhead is fixed to the wall and can’t be moved… which was really annoying when showering… The shower cubicle is also a bit small. The room key is still a magnetic card, which often isn’t very responsive, especially in the elevator, requiring multiple attempts… Parking spaces are insufficient, management is chaotic, and the walk from the parking lot to the lobby is truly terrible…
The Club Lounge is on the 51st floor. There weren’t many people there, basically empty. The ambiance was acceptable, but there wasn’t much of a view. The food was pretty bad; both afternoon tea and Happy Hour were disappointing. As expected, the lounges at CPs I’ve experienced are far inferior to those at ICs…
Lastly, I have to say that Nanjing’s severe smog really lives up to its reputation…
