Guilin Silver Cave Scenic Area

The Guilin Silver Cave Scenic Area is located in Lipu, Guilin, just 3 kilometers from the border of Yangshuo. Silver Cave is a typical karst landform that runs through twelve peaks. It is a multi-level limestone cave renowned for its interior stalactite formations. The scenic area covers an area of 1,500 mu and opened to the public in early 1999. Its most famous landscapes include the “Three Wonders”: Snow Mountain Waterfall, Music Stone Screen, and Fairyland of the Jade Pool; and the “Three Treasures”: Buddha Preaching Scriptures, Hunyuan Pearl Umbrella, and Single Pillar Holding Up the Sky.

The Silver Cave itself is the core attraction of the scenic area. The currently developed route spans 2,000 meters and is divided into three sections: the Lower Cave, the Main Hall, and the Upper Cave. From the bottom to the top of the rock, the height difference is approximately equivalent to a 16-story building. Inside, karst features such as stalactites, stone pillars, stone pagodas, stone curtains, and stone waterfalls are abundant and diverse in shape.

It is very convenient to drive here using navigation; it is located right next to the highway. However, upon arrival, you may encounter local villagers soliciting parking for a fee of 5 yuan. If you continue further, you will find the scenic area’s own parking lot, which charges 7.5 yuan… Inside, there are about three excellent photo spots, all of which have been cordoned off by the management for paid photography services. The usual practice is that taking the photo is free, but if you want to keep it, it costs 30 yuan. If you’re interested, the price is actually quite reasonable, as you receive not only a printed photo with a frame but also a QR code to download the original high-resolution image. Another tourist trap to watch out for is the vendor selling “night pearls”; it is recommended to simply walk past without stopping.

The path inside is long, winding, and uneven, with some areas being slippery, so please pay close attention to safety. Once you reach the section with water, the humidity rises sharply, creating a muggy atmosphere that may also cause your camera lens to fog up. Towards the end of the tour, there is a fairly long stretch designated for shopping. Overall, however, if you haven’t visited many limestone caves before, this place is definitely worth seeing.
