Feeling great, or feeling down? Take a day trip to Hangzhou. Before you know it, you’re on a high-speed train. Only the early morning trains to Hangzhou are regular bullet trains; any later and only high-speed trains are available. Or you could take a passing bullet train to Hangzhou South Station, but then you’d have to ride a bus for over an hour just to get to Hangzhou Railway Station? Might as well stick with the high-speed train. The ride there was pretty good—maintaining a speed of 350 km/h all the way until Yuhang, and you barely feel a thing while sitting in the carriage.

I’ve always loved the roads in Hangzhou, lined with tall trees on both sides. They’re just a bit narrow—I wonder if traffic gets bad…

I visited three places in one day in Hangzhou. One was Häagen-Dazs at West Lake Paradise, which I went to in the afternoon.

Another was Linyu Garden Restaurant, where I had lunch. The ambiance was nice, but the food was just so-so.

I also went to West Lake Spring in the evening. It felt pretty average—definitely not as good as the Cantonese food in Shanghai.
