A restaurant I’ve mentioned many times before, it’s considered one of the affordable and good-value steakhouses for the general public in Shanghai. It had been almost a year since my last visit, so I took the opportunity of Chaos’s birthday to return. Previously, there was only a 98 RMB set menu; now they offer three tiers at 68, 108, and 138 RMB, and à la carte ordering is also available. Perhaps due to rising costs, the beef quality in the 108 RMB set isn’t what it used to be. As a result, they’ve resorted to various methods, such as using meat tenderizer powder and marinating in sauces. So while the texture and flavor might actually be better than a steak simply pan-fried in butter, the essence of a good steak—the distinctive aroma of quality beef—is lost. Of course, this is probably a reasonable solution for cost control. The lighting in the restaurant is pretty nice too; with a spotlight shining down, it’s quite photogenic—hehe.
