Changchun Shenlufeng Tourist Resort is located in Shuangyang District, Changchun. Its core area covers Diaoshuihu National Forest Park and surrounding land, with a total area of about 38 square kilometers. It was designated as a national 4A-level tourist attraction in December 2025. Centered on deer culture, the resort integrates mountain sightseeing, mountain sports, and pastoral leisure. It comprises three main zones: Diaoshuihu National Forest Park, Luming Valley, and Guilai Town. It features natural landscapes such as a 711-meter-high peak, karst caves formed 200 million years ago, and an underground ten-thousand-year-old ice waterfall, along with more than 50 attractions and recreational facilities including a glass skywalk, the Tianya Swing, and Bailu Park.
There are several highlights here. First, it boasts Changchun’s highest peak. However, because it is quite far from downtown Changchun—about 70 km in a straight line—you can’t see the city at all; you can only look down at the farmland and villages below. Still, for Changchun locals, such scenery is rather rare. Also, transportation here is somewhat inconvenient, so driving yourself is practically the only option. Taking the expressway from Changchun takes just over an hour, making it a great choice for a one-day trip nearby. Another highlight is the karst cave, which is unique in Changchun. The resort uses an all-in-one ticket that basically includes the shuttle bus and all entertainment activities. If you bring seniors aged 70 or above, they get free admission, which makes it very cost-effective.
There are some shops at the entrance, and more around Xingye Plaza after you get off the shuttle bus—in other words, the two commercial areas are located at the two terminals of the scenic area’s shuttle route. After entering the scenic area and walking past the commercial street, you’ll find many amusement rides: a pirate ship, a pendulum ride, and a castle. Passing through this area brings you to the shuttle bus departure point. I recommend taking the bus directly to Xingye Plaza, then walking up these steps, where you can choose to enter the karst cave or skip it and hike up the mountain on foot.
If you don’t go into the karst cave, the path is mostly gentle slopes like this, and there’s also a wooden boardwalk alongside it to choose from. Overall, it’s not difficult at all.
Then you’ll reach the glass skywalk and the high-altitude swing. If you choose to go through the karst cave, its exit is also here. The glass skywalk is well maintained and very clean, and there are hardly any staff around—it’s almost entirely self-service.
There’s also a café up here where you can rest if you get tired. The café also serves light meals and snacks, and the ambiance is quite nice. The second floor of the café is an observation deck.
There’s a bell on the observation deck that you can ring freely, and the view is really nice.
Afterwards, walk back to Xingye Plaza and take the shuttle bus to Luming Valley to feed the deer. There are quite a lot of deer, and carrots are sold on site for 20 yuan per small basket. When we visited, it was probably because of the heat and it being noon, but the deer seemed to be resting and lacked energy. Of course, once you start feeding them, a group of deer will stand up and surround you, asking for food. However, the overall maintenance of this area feels average, and the scenery isn’t particularly attractive—it’s rather casual, with deer droppings all over the ground and no one cleaning them up. Fortunately, there weren’t many people, so just consider it an experience.
Finally, head back to the entrance. This is Shenlufeng’s mascot.
Overall, this place is very suitable for bringing kids, and it’s also a good choice for bringing parents like I did, especially since those over 70 get free admission. For adults, the ticket is a bit pricey, and older people can’t really enjoy the amusement rides, so it might be more suited to younger visitors. I also think the commercial offerings are somewhat lacking—there are almost no chain brands, and many shops weren’t open. Of course, with fewer visitors, it’s hard to stay in business. Another issue is that the entrance is indeed quite far from the shuttle bus station, so if you turn back halfway to have lunch, you’ll have to walk a long way.
But in terms of scenery and experience, it really is unique in Changchun. The hike is very easy, and even seniors should have no problem with it, making it a great destination for a self-driving day trip out of Changchun.
