The Luxury Collection Hotel, Changsha Meixi Lake

The Luxury Collection Hotel, Changsha Meixi Lake was arguably the flagship hotel in Changsha back when it opened. It enjoys convenient transportation, located right next to Yuelu Mountain and not far from a metro station, with a shopping mall right beside it. Although the property is showing its age a bit now, you can still see the thoughtfulness put into its original design. During the National Day holiday, due to full occupancy, there were absolutely no upgrades for members. However, the city-view room I was assigned still offered quite nice views—right outside the window was the Meixi Lake International Culture & Arts Centre designed by Zaha Hadid, and you could also catch a glimpse of Meixi Lake from the side.

The Luxury Collection brand has been performing very poorly in China, suffering from low brand awareness and a lack of distinct character. The number of hotels under this brand has been declining year after year, with many existing properties gradually rebranding to other names. Currently, there are only five left in mainland China…

In terms of hardware, the hotel is actually quite impressive. After all, it opened in 2017, with all guest rooms located above the 38th floor, and maintenance has been fairly good. The interior design style of the rooms feels relatively youthful, avoiding excessive use of dark colors. Perhaps this was an attempt to make the brand feel less business-oriented, but unfortunately, the service at this brand really is just average.

It’s quite rare to find a copy of the “Constitution” on a hotel desk.

The hotel’s public spaces are also quite distinctive, though the lobby is a bit small and always seems crowded.

Overall, if you’re visiting Changsha, aside from the landmark Niccolo Hotel, this property is also an excellent choice. There’s even a Chayan Yuese tea shop in the mall downstairs where you can grab a drink—make sure to enjoy a few cups while you’re there!
