The rates at W Macau are arguably the lowest in the country, perhaps even globally. The hotel entrance is located behind Studio City. Studio City is a somewhat run-down resort; aside from its famous Figure-8 Ferris Wheel, its retail offerings are relatively underdeveloped and simply cannot compare to places like The Venetian. The entry threshold for its casino is also lower than that of Sands. Of course, you can also walk over through the mall. The hotel lobby isn’t very large, and when I arrived, there were quite a lot of people checking in and out, resulting in a long queue. Fortunately, the service remained attentive.
The hotel’s facilities are brand new with a strong sense of design. The rooms feature an overall dark color scheme—they look just okay during the day but are quite stunning once the lights are on at night. Room maintenance is excellent and everything is very clean. The elevators are fast, the gym is well-equipped, and the soundproofing in the rooms is great. With the dim lighting at night and the extremely comfortable mattress, I had a wonderful night’s sleep.
Breakfast was lavish and tasted great. While not quite as exquisite as The St. Regis, it was still excellent overall. All the staff members are young and very efficient.
Right outside the room window is the Hengqin Port, and there’s a complimentary shuttle bus stopping right downstairs that takes you directly there—very convenient.
I used my $50 dining credit to try the hotel’s Chinese restaurant, Hua, located on the 40th floor with views of the Figure-8 Ferris Wheel right outside the window. The restaurant specializes in innovative Cantonese cuisine, helmed by a Malaysian head chef. I have to say, the food was absolutely delicious and the ambiance was top-notch. However, the service felt slightly understaffed. Because many guests were dining using their complimentary credits, the servers seemed a bit unfamiliar with certain procedures, so we had to wait quite a while for things like settling the bill. As for the pricing, it is indeed on the higher side.
