The 2014 West Bund Art & Design Fair was held at the West Bund Art Center, located in the Xuhui Riverside area next to the Yuz Museum. The West Bund Art Center was originally the stamping workshop of the Shanghai Aircraft Manufacturing Factory. After renovation, the space is massive, with a section divided into two levels. The downside is that there is no air conditioning, so it will likely only be usable for a few short months.
A lot of effort went into promoting this exhibition on Douban and Gewara beforehand, but after actually visiting, I felt it wasn’t as good as I had imagined. Although the space is huge, the layout is overly simplistic—reminiscent of various industrial exhibitions where each booth represents a gallery. There was basically not much to see; a casual stroll was enough to cover the entire venue. Only a few works by renowned artists were decent, but there weren’t many of those either.
The first floor mainly featured artworks, while the second floor primarily showcased design works,
Yayoi Kusama’s Infinity Mirror Room—at least it was a piece I didn’t get the chance to see last time I visited her exhibition because of the crowds,
but this visit was great, absolutely no one around~~~~
Afterwards, I took a walk along the Xuhui Riverside. Few people and lovely weather~~~
