As part of the series of events celebrating the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and France, this is considered one of the more prestigious art exhibitions in Shanghai.
The curator of this exhibition is the internationally renowned designer Tokujin Yoshioka.
The exhibits date back to the 1870s and include over a hundred precious antique timepieces from the Cartier Collection.
The entire exhibition is divided into several sections: Cartier Collection (Evolution of Style / Mysterious Time / Aesthetic Pioneers), Master Craftsmanship,
Essence of Watchmaking, Contemporary Rhythm, and Gate to the Future.
As an exhibition of craftsmanship, it reveals the beauty of mechanics; the mystery clocks are fascinating,
and the subsequent craftsmanship section is astonishing, offering a profound realization that exquisite handcraft cannot be replaced.
There will also be several live demonstrations by master watchmakers; please refer to the official announcement for the schedule.
This exhibition is held on the 7th floor of the Power Station of Art (also known as the Big Chimney), with the ticket office located on the 1st floor.
To reach the exhibition hall on the 7th floor, you need to take the elevator to the 5th floor first, and then take the escalator up to the 7th floor. If you take the elevator directly to the 7th floor, you’ll end up at the restaurant~~~
The entire Power Station of Art is currently empty; I look forward to seeing it filled with exhibits during the Biennale~~
The ticket price is only 20 yuan, which is very affordable, and you can borrow an audio guide for free using your ID card.
The venue isn’t very large, but if you examine each piece carefully, it will take about an hour, and even longer if you plan to take photos.
The exhibition layout is excellent, the lighting is superb, and the massive Gate to the Future at the end looks amazing.
