The Long Museum is a private museum founded by Chinese collectors Liu Yiqian and Wang Wei.
It has two locations: the Pudong branch and the West Bund branch. The Pudong branch, located at Luoshan Road and Huamu Road, opened in late 2012,
while the West Bund branch opened in March 2014 and is currently hosting its inaugural exhibition, “Revolutionary Renaissance.”
The West Bund branch is situated in the heart of the “West Bund Cultural Corridor” along the Xuhui Riverside in Shanghai, and was designed and built by Chinese architect Liu Yichun.
The main building features a unique “umbrella arch” structure and comprises four floors.
The first and second floors serve as exhibition spaces for contemporary art, including painting, sculpture, installation, and new media.
The surfaces of these large-scale cantilevered arched spaces are cast from fine-textured fair-faced concrete,
creating a visual dialogue with the “Coal Funnel Gallery,” a trendy space converted from the original coal hoppers of the Beipiao Wharf.
The basement level houses permanent exhibitions of ancient Chinese art treasures and artworks from the Republic of China era.
There are many masterpieces on display here.
