The weather was nice on Sunday morning—sunny but not hot. At noon, I visited Qiong Liu Ren Jian, a place I hadn’t been to in a long time. Not much has changed; the set meal prices have gone up, and accordingly, they now include an extra scoop of ice cream. The taste remains as good as ever. Interestingly, the prices for à la carte dishes haven’t changed much, probably because they were raised a while ago. During the day, the ambiance is nothing special, and with added lighting in the restrooms, the mysterious vibe is completely gone—it’s definitely better to visit at night. The originally quiet atmosphere became unusually lively with the arrival of two groups: 10 students, 10 teachers, and 10 foreigners, who sat at three joined long tables and filled the entire third floor.

After eating our fill, we took a stroll around the nearby Taojiang Road and Dongping Road. These two very short streets are lined with various restaurants, cafés, and bars. At ABBEY ROAD on Yueyang Road, many foreigners bring their families for brunch on weekends. Right across from it is the Conservatory of Music, so on weekdays you can often see children carrying musical instruments walking back and forth.

At the corner of Yueyang Road and Taojiang Road is Greek Taverna. With its eye-catching Mediterranean style, the open-air seating on the second floor must be quite popular.

On Taojiang Road is Anna Maya. Many people end up here because the neighboring Old Mike’s Café is full. I’ve heard the interior is rather quirky.

Camphor Garden at the intersection of Taojiang Road and Hengshan Road features a glasshouse built around a massive camphor tree. It looks beautiful when the whole house lights up at night. The cuisine is classic Cantonese, though I’ve heard it has declined somewhat and the food isn’t as good as it used to be.

On Dongping Road is Simply Thai. This branch has the best ambiance among all their locations. The outdoor seating is fairly popular, while the indoor seating is a bit cramped. The food tastes good, but the service is just average.

Simply Life is under the same company as Simply Thai and specializes in creative home furnishings.
