It’s actually a residential community, but a very large one, and there are even smaller communities within it…
Hehe, I’ve been in Shanghai for almost 6 years but have never been to Songjiang. Since the weather was so nice today, I decided to take a trip. I went out to wait for the dreaded Jiasong Line bus. After waiting for half an hour, the bus finally arrived, but there were no seats left, so I had to stand for the entire hour-long ride. After passing Sheshan, I realized that Songjiang is indeed a beautiful place, full of greenery everywhere, with clusters of villas. There were hardly any high-rise buildings along the way, just villas as far as the eye could see… After standing all the way to the terminal, I got off, ignored the swarm of motorcycle drivers soliciting rides, and took a taxi straight to my destination: Thames Town. Upon entering, I found that aside from the security guards, there was basically no one around. I walked all by myself, and it wasn’t until I reached the church in the center that I saw some couples taking wedding photos and a few tourists.
However, this place really isn’t suitable for living, especially if you don’t have a car—you simply wouldn’t be able to survive here. There are barely any shops inside; some that used to be open have already closed down, leaving empty spaces with only their signboards remaining. Moreover, after wandering around for a while, I was getting hungry and ready to find a place for dinner when I ran into a serious problem. I found a café, but they told me they only serve food at lunchtime. Even worse, there was a restaurant that actually closes at 2:00 PM… Seeing that it was getting late and the last Jiasong Line bus apparently departs at 6:10 PM, I headed out and took a taxi back. I waited 20 minutes before an empty taxi finally came along—luckily, no one else was competing with me for it… So I got in, rode all the way back… and ended up buying a burger to eat…
Thames Town is in Songjiang District. It’s built in British style. In fact, it’s a residence community, but very large and including several small communities. I’ve been in Shanghai for almost 6 years but never been to Songjiang District ever. It’s a great day with big sunshine and comfortable temperature then I decided to go there to take a look. Songjiang District is a good place for it is full of green plants and villas.
