Although Doraemon was a childhood favorite, the biggest difference between it and other cartoon characters is that it’s incredibly cute—in other words, an adorable mascot, much like Totoro. It’s perfectly fine to enjoy it even as an adult~~~~ Especially when there’s an opportunity like this: 100 life-size Doraemon figures, each holding a different gadget~~~~
Here are the specific event details:
Location: No. 245 Madang Road, Huangpu District, Shanghai, Xintiandi Fashion Shopping Center
Date: April 28, 2013 – June 16, 2013, 10:00–20:30
Admission tickets are required for the event. Here’s how to get them:
1. Purchase a souvenir set for 50 yuan to receive a same-day admission ticket.
2. Spend 58 yuan in a single transaction at Xintiandi to receive a non-same-day admission ticket.
There are 100 figures in total, arranged in two rows, so the display isn’t very large. If you want to take photos with each one, it might take about an hour if you move quickly; just looking around will be much faster. Of course, if you’re only interested in viewing them, you can even see them from outside…..~~~
The entire Xintiandi area has been decorated with a Doraemon theme.

Now let me recommend a great spot for sunbathing and afternoon tea… After seeing Doraemon and having lunch, the weather was so nice that I decided to find a place to soak up some sun. I’ve passed by this place every time I visited Xintiandi before and always wanted to stop in but never had the time…. This place is Éclair, the café inside Andaz, a boutique hotel under the Hyatt brand.

The seating is comfortable and the ambiance is unbeatable, especially on beautiful sunny days—and the best part is that it’s not too crowded even on holidays. The coffee is pretty good, and at 35 yuan, the price is quite reasonable for a five-star hotel. Unfortunately, I added way too much syrup right away and completely ruined my cup of coffee… sigh….. The apple tart was also decent, but I still really crave a delicious Apple Pie….~~~~
