As the most luxurious brand under the Hyatt umbrella, there are currently only 10 Park Hyatt properties in mainland China, located in Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Ningbo, Suzhou, Sanya, Changsha, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and Changbaishan. Park Hyatt Changbaishan is situated within the Wanda Changbaishan Resort. The hotel opened in 2013, making it 13 years old now—relatively mature by hotel standards. It is not particularly large, with a total of 164 guest rooms. The interior design was led by Jaya, the renowned designer behind many Aman resorts, and bears his distinctive signature style. Although high-grade materials were used throughout, they have inevitably succumbed to the passage of time; some wallpaper is starting to peel, and the flooring and cabinetry show unavoidable signs of wear.
For this stay, I booked a suite on the top floor of the main building. It is exceptionally spacious at 110 square meters. Upon entering, you step into a living room that features its own independent wardrobe and restroom. The mini-bar is well-stocked, including local specialties like Hongbaolai Peanut Milk, and comes equipped with a capsule coffee machine.
The bedroom is very minimalist. Unfortunately, the window in this room only spans half the wall, though the curtains are motorized and the bedding is extremely comfortable.
The bathroom is massive and features a modern aesthetic. It is equipped with double sinks, a smart toilet, a Dyson hair dryer, Le Labo toiletries, and a large soaking tub.
From the corridor windows, you can see the hotel’s standalone main building along with nine individual villas.
A sculpture symbolizing Changbaishan Mountain stands at the hotel entrance. The public spaces are relatively compact; turning in from the entrance leads directly to the lobby, and the entire property has only one restaurant.
Exiting through the back gate, a wooden boardwalk leads directly to the commercial area of Wanda Town. However, leaving via the front gate is less convenient for pedestrians, as it is primarily designed for vehicular traffic.
You can see the ski resort’s cable cars along the way.
It feels completely different from 12 years ago. The Holiday Inn where I stayed previously has been rebranded as Wanda Jinhua. Since it’s currently the off-season, many shops remain closed.
There is still a complimentary cable car ride to the mountaintop, offering distant views of Changbaishan Mountain~~
Overall, given the off-season rates, this hotel offers exceptional value. While the hardware is showing its age, the service remains top-notch and the dining is excellent, making it a very solid choice in Changbaishan. However, if visiting during peak season when rates soar to several thousand yuan per night, you may want to temper your expectations~~
