Kuanzhai Alley is one of the three major historical and cultural conservation areas in Chengdu. It consists of three parallel old-style city streets—Wide Alley, Narrow Alley, and Well Alley—along with the courtyard house complexes nestled between them. Much like Tianzifang, it was redeveloped from an old architectural cluster, but the renovation wasn’t completed until 2008. As a result, it wasn’t around during my last visit to Chengdu, so I decided to make up for it this time~~
Just like Tianzifang, it gets incredibly crowded on weekends. However, since most shops here are on the pricier side, there aren’t actually that many people inside; most visitors are just strolling around outside. So if someone else is treating you, it’s definitely worth a visit—but if you’re planning to go on a weekend just to wander around on your own, you might find it a bit underwhelming…
It was quite a feat to manage to capture photos without any people in them amidst such huge crowds… Anyway, here are the pictures~~~~
