It’s rare for me to stay at a hotel that isn’t part of the IHG group… mainly because IHG properties in Hangzhou are located in rather remote areas, and during my visit, they were all fully booked. So, I ended up choosing this unique place~~~~
This hotel is situated at the entrance of the Jiuxi Scenic Area. I’ve passed this intersection every time I visited Jiuxi, but I had never ventured inside before. Turning from Zhijiang Road onto Jiuxi Road, it’s just a short drive away; the hotel is practically built into the hillside. The entire property is expansive, covering over 50,000 square meters. Originally built in 1958, it underwent renovation in 2013 and also serves as a recuperation center for China Eastern Airlines. There are four main buildings with a total of 162 guest rooms. I wouldn’t recommend the most basic room type as it’s quite small; for an extra 100 RMB, you can upgrade to a Deluxe Room, which is more than double the size.
The hard furnishings are quite luxurious, but the soft furnishings and service… fall short of 4-star standards… Check-in/Check-out was very inefficient. Although the room was huge, the mattress was firm, the TV was small with no international channels, the bedding was decent, but the toiletries were of poor quality. There’s virtually no room service, no mini-bar, and no ice bucket. Breakfast still requires paper vouchers, and the selection is limited to a few Chinese dishes with mediocre taste… I probably won’t be returning… but at least the photos look nice…
