Shanghai Tower is currently the second tallest building in the world and the tallest in China. The main structure has 128 floors with a total height of 632 meters, and the highest occupied floor is at 561.3 meters. The observation decks are located on the 118th and 119th floors. Currently in trial operation, only the 118th floor (at a height of 546 meters) is open to the public. The building houses the world’s largest tuned mass damper, weighing 1,000 tons, and the 125th and 126th floors where the damper is located will be opened for sightseeing in the future. That should be another magical experience.
Over the years, the title of “Top of Shanghai” has kept changing: first it was the Oriental Pearl Tower, then Jin Mao Tower, followed by Shanghai World Financial Center, and unexpectedly, just a few years later, it changed again. Although the sky looks so blue from the ground, the air quality is actually just average; looking out from the top, there is still some haze, so the view isn’t perfectly clear, but it’s still quite impressive. If you plan to visit, make sure to check the weather and air quality beforehand—don’t go all the way up only to see nothing~~
The entrance is underground, and an ID card is required to purchase tickets. Downstairs, there is first an exhibition hall showcasing the features of Shanghai and Shanghai Tower, as well as famous skyscrapers from around the world, followed by a direct elevator ride to the observation deck. The elevator travels at 18 meters per second, taking only 55 seconds to reach the top, which can be quite uncomfortable for your ears…
